Migrating From Analog to Digital Voice Service

When migrating from older analog telephone service to newer VoIP service, there are various issues to consider before canceling your old account.

  • Phone Number Porting
  • Fax Service
  • Security Alarm Monitoring
  • Credit Card Processing
  • Postage Machines

Phone Number Porting

Do not cancel your old phone service until all your important phone numbers have been completely ported from your old service provider to the new digital service.

  • You might permanently lose important phone numbers (DIDs) if the old service gets cancelled before the ports complete.

Fax Service

Do not cancel your old phone service until all your important fax numbers have been completely ported from your old service provider to the new digital service.

  • Fax does not work well with VoIP.
  • We offer our vFAX service to replace the old fax service.
  • Almost everyone will save money with vFAX compared to analog fax service.

Security Alarm Monitoring

Do not cancel your old phone service until you have confirmed that your security alarm monitoring service is using 'cellular' (wireless) monitoring.

  • Most new security alarm monitoring services use 'cellular' wireless connectivity.
  • Older installations often use an analog phone line and must be converted to 'cellular' monitoring service.

Credit Card Processing

Do not cancel your old phone service until you have confirmed that your credit card processing terminals will function properly without an analog phone line.

  • If you need to replace a credit card processing terminal, consider upgrading to a faster, simpler, Internet-connected (networked) service.

Postage Machines

Do not cancel your old phone service until you have confirmed that your postage machine will function properly without an analog phone line.

  • Most newer postage machines support Ethernet network connections, but not all.
  • Many lower-priced postage machines require a networking add-on.
  • Some lower-priced postage machines must be replaced with a network-capable model.
