Use Group Policy to Exclude Users from Folder Redirection

Group Policy Precedence (Inheritance): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orQns7K-brM

You might consider excluding admin users or portable computer users from Windows Profile Folder Redirection.

:!: We create an Active Directory user group named NoRedirection adding users for whom we don't want Folder Redirection.

:!: We create a Group Policy Object linked to the AD OU containing your user objects.

:!: We use the user group NoRedirection in the Security Filtering section of the GPO to limit it's effect to the desired users.

:!: We create folder redirection policies that set the policy back to the local profile location (the default) in order to counteract the upstream redirection policy.

:!: Set the NoRedirection GPO to Enforced, if necessary to take precedence over other GPOs linked to the same OU.

Check for redirection status:

  1. Start → Run → %appdata%
  2. Click on the yellow folder icon next to the folder path to show the network path
