7-Zip Compression Utility
Encrypt Data
Use 7-Zip to encrypt data that you may want to share securely via email, DropBox etc.
The The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has made this mandatory for transporting any patient data.
Right Click folder or file to be encrypted.
Select 7-Zip → Add to Archive
Archive Format: zip, 7z, etc.
Compression Method: To secure large amounts of data quickly choose “Store” this does not compress but only copies data.
Encryption: Enter a password. The longer the password the harder it is to crack
Encryption Method: ZipCrypto or AES-256.
ZipCrypto is more compatible with zip archivers but is a weak encryption. It is vulnerable to a known plain
text attack. 7-Zip and WinZip do support AES-256.
