Caller ID Notes

Acronyms

CNAM - CallerID Name - Name of of calling party pulled from LIDB

CNUM (CID) - CallerID Number - Phone number of calling party

LIDB - Line Information DataBase - Used in the US and Canada to store and retrieve Caller ID records

Incoming Call CNAM Lookups

For $1.95 per month, per DID, we can enable CNAM delivery to your PBX from Vitelity. Vitelity does the LIDB database query and delivers the results via the normal CallerID mechanism to your PBX.

This is a 'personal preference' issue. Some folks want CNAM on incoming calls, others not.

Once the CNAM service is enabled on your DID, calls to that DID should display the CallerID Name, if there is an LIDB entry for the calling number to display.

Phone Display

Each individual phone is also capable of CID or CNAM display as a preference (assuming CNAM service is enabled on the called DID). This might be adjusted if:

  1. You want CNAM enabled, and
  2. One of your users doesn't want the CNAM displayed (they prefer the CID number only be displayed)

LIDB Database

In the US, only CallerID (CID or CNUM) *number* service is available from telcos. In Canada and some other countries, some jurisdictions pass CallerID Name (CNAM) *text* as well as CID (number).

In the US, the call recipient (or their provider like Vitelity) does a database lookup (Line Information DataBase) to find the CNAM of a caller.

CNAM for Toll Free numbers is not necessarily available in the LIDB.

LIDB updates can take several weeks to propagate completely.

I heard back from Vitelity this morning. Unfortunately, I am not able to offer any sort of discount for multiple database updates. Through Vitelity, it is $10 per number to update the LIDB.

I checked a few of your numbers to see what the current LIDB data is. This is representative:

6025527331: “PHOENIX, AZ” (new DIDs from Vitelity)

6028896404: “AURIZON RESOURC” (DIDs ported from Cox)

If you would like to change the LIDB data for your DIDs, I can submit them in bulk and the price is $10 each (at my cost)…$180 total.

I propose “CMOC INTL” as the CNAM for all your US/CAN DIDs. It is 15 characters max.

We cannot set the LIDB data on international DIDs.
