Caller ID Notes

Test Lookups of LIDB: https://www.calleridtest.com/

Acronyms

CNAM

  • CallerID Name
  • Name of of calling party pulled from LIDB
  • 15 characters max

CNUM (CID)

  • CallerID Number
  • Phone number of calling party

LIDB

  • Line Information DataBase
  • Used in the US and Canada to store and retrieve Caller ID records

Incoming Call CNAM Lookups

For $1.95 per month, per DID, we can enable CNAM delivery to your PBX and phone from Vitelity. Vitelity does the LIDB database query and delivers the results via the normal CallerID mechanism to your PBX.

This is a 'personal preference' issue. Some folks want CNAM on incoming calls, others not.

Once the CNAM service is enabled on your DID, calls to that DID should display the CallerID Name, if there is an LIDB entry for the calling number to display.

Phone Display

Each individual phone is generally capable of CID or CNAM display as a preference, sometimes both, depending on the phone model. This might be adjusted if:

  1. You want CNAM enabled, and
  2. One of your users doesn't want the CNAM displayed (they prefer the CID number only be displayed)

LIDB Database

:!: CNAM for Toll Free numbers is not necessarily available in the LIDB.

:!: LIDB updates can take several weeks to propagate completely.

In the US, only CallerID Number (CNUM) service is available from telcos. Mobile carriers may also pass CNAM.

In Canada and some other countries, some jurisdictions pass CallerID Name (CNAM) as well as CNUM.

In the US, the call recipient (or their provider like Vitelity) does a database lookup (LIDB) to find the CNAM of a caller.

Database Updates

:!: Vitelity charges $10 per number to update the LIDB.

If you would like to change the LIDB data for any of your DIDs, we can submit them in bulk and the price is $10 each (our cost).

We cannot set the LIDB data on international DIDs.
