Cable Modem Status and Reset Procedure

Status Lights

Refer to this image as a common model representative of most cable modems:

Cable Modem Status Lights

Normally, you will see lights number 1-4 all lit up and if they are not, the cable modem knows the circuit is down.

The middle two lights (2 and 3) may be blue or green.

Light number 5 will be on/blinking with activity when the router is connected and turned on (pretty much always) (Ethernet link light).

If you lose connectivity again, the cable modem status will be our focus. Note the status of the lights.

Unplug the power from the cable modem for 15 seconds, then plug it back in.

The power light #1 will come on and the second light #2 will blink. The second light #2 will go solid and #3 will blink. #3 will go solid and #4 will blink. Once #4 goes solid, the circuit should be back up.

Connectivity should/may be restored. Please note the connectivity status.

If connectivity is still not restored, unplug the power to the Mikrotik router (red metal unit) then plug it back in.

Wait 1 minute and check that connectivity has been restored.

Please contact me about any circuit disruptions.

This info is mostly for reference, or for the next time…
