We have noticed a problem with RDS (Remote Desktop) sessions when using certain applications:

• Microsoft Office Applications
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Outlook
• ServiceCEO

When a user leaves certain applications running when they click Sign Out, the RDS session may be disconnected but left in a state of Signing Out…forever.

Here is a simple way to kill the running apps causing the problem:

taskkill.exe /F /IM ServiceCEO.exe /IM excel.exe /IM outlook.exe /IM winword.exe

The session will normally complete the Sign Out once the problem apps are closed.

In the Parallels RAS environment, we have also found that you can simply publish a remote app that does this remotely.
