Zimbra Password Management
Never use trivial passwords for anything, ever! The vast majority of account 'hacks' involve trivial passwords!
Minimum Password Complexity
Our estimation of 'minimum' changes over time, as evildoers get more sophisticated…
For the moment, this is our recommended minumum:
- Use at least eight characters, preferably 12 or more as the basis of your passphrase
- Single dictionary words are way too easy to crack
- Include upper-case letters
- They are best used in the middle of your password, not at the ends
- Include lower-case letters
- Include numeric characters
- Include symbol characters
- Do not include pet names, kids' names, birthdays or other easily acquired bits
Zimbra Web Client
From the Zimbra Web Client:
ZWC → Preferences → General → Password
Lost Password Recovery
Add Recovery E-Mail
Do this before you forget your Zimbra Password! If you don't, you will need to contact your Zimbra admin to have them change your Zimbra password.
ZWC → Preferences → Accounts → Password Recovery Account Settings → Add Recovery E-Mail
Access your Recovery E-Mail account to obtain the verification code.
Enter the verification code in Zimbra to complete the process.
If you have trouble with copy and paste, try manually entering the verification code.
You can now use the Forgot Password link on the Zimbra login page to reset your password.
