Create Bootable CloneZilla Image Restore USB Drive

Tuxboot Method

:!: Download the “Tuxboot” utility to create a bootable CloneZilla Live USB drive.

  1. Use a USB drive that is large enough to hold your Restore image. Typically the image will be a little over half as large as the used space on the drive.
  2. Format the USB drive using FAT32 ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE ERASED!!!
  3. Run the downloaded Tuxboot utility

  1. Click the Update button
  2. Make sure “Pre Downloaded” is NOT checked
  3. Make Type USB Drive and your USB Drive should be auto detected and in the “Drive” field.
  4. Click OK. The image will be downloaded (about 145MB) and written to your USB Drive.
  5. On the PC you want to create a restore image of boot to the CloneZilla USB Drive.
  6. Choose “Other Modes…” → “To RAM…” → Leave on defaults until choosing a repository.
  7. Choose sdb1, hit Enter → Leave on “/Top_” → Leave on “Beginner mode…”
  8. Choose “Savedisk…” → name image appropriately → choose drive to be imaged.

:!: This will save the image to the root of the USB Drive

Restore PC from USB Drive

  1. Insert the CloneZilla Image USB Drive.
  2. Boot PC to USB drive
  3. Choose “Other Modes …” option and hit Enter.
  4. Choose “To RAM… “ option and hit Enter.
  5. Leave selection on “English…” and hit Enter.
  6. Leave selection on “Don't touch…” and hit Enter.
  7. Leave selection on “Start CloneZ…” and hit Enter.
  8. Leave selection on “Device-Image…” and hit Enter.
  9. Leave selection on “Local_Dev…” and hit Enter.
  10. Hit Enter again.
  11. Choose the bottom option “sdb1” as repository and hit enter.
  12. Leave on “/ Top_…” and hit Enter.
  13. Leave selection on “Beginner mode…” and hit Enter.
  14. Choose the 3rd option “Restoredisk…” and hit Enter.
  15. Leave selection on “Image_Name_You_Chose” as image to be restored and hit Enter.
  16. Leave selection on “sda_…” as the target and hit Enter.
  17. Hit Enter again.
  18. Hit “y” for yes and hit Enter.
  19. Hit “y” for yes and hit Enter again.
  20. After 15 minutes it will finish and you will have a “Hit Enter to continue…” message.
  21. Hit Enter.
  22. Choose “Power off” and hit Enter.
  23. After machine power off removed USB Drive.

:!: Restore must be done to a hard drive as large or larger than the original.

:!: If the new larger hard drive does not appear to be able to expand to the correct size (stuck at original size) in disk manager shrink it by 10MB and the free space will appear.
