Suspected Malware Infection

When We Suspect an Infection

When we have PC with a malware infection, we like to:

  1. Change your passwords
    • Network, PC login and e-mail
    • They are probably compromized
  2. Verify you are running the latest version of your resident anti-virus software
    • Install the latest version if you are not (after running the on-demand scans below)
    • There is usually a new major version every year
  3. Manually update your anti-virus software
    • Make sure the automatic updates are working
  4. Run a full scan with your resident anti-malware software
  5. Run a full scan with at least one other on-demand anti-malware scanner
    • More suspects will be found
    • See below

Please let us know ASAP what you found.

Oftentimes, we have to temporarily disable your e-mail account if your infected PC was spamming others. Once we hear back from you that your PC has been cleaned, we can re-enable your account and request our server be taken off of any blacklists you might have gotten us on. ;-)

Free On-Demand Scanners

Here are our go-to scanners available for free.

:!: These are exellent tools, but they won't replace your memory resident anti-malware software such as AVG CloudCare.

The first two are on-line scanners and don't get installed on your PC (which is perfect).

The last one gets installed, but it's only an on-demand scanner. You can uninstall it after you're done or leave it installed for next time. It doesn't use any resources unless it's running.

Please run full scans with at least two of these.
