====== Zimbra Password Management ======

<note tip>**Never use trivial passwords for anything, ever!**  The vast majority of account 'hacks' involve trivial passwords!</note>

===== Minimum Password Complexity =====

Our estimation of 'minimum' changes over time, as evildoers get more sophisticated...

For the moment, this is our recommended minumum:

  * Use **at least eight characters**, preferably 12 or more as the basis of your passphrase
  * Single dictionary words are way too easy to crack
  * Include **upper-case letters**
    * They are best used in the middle of your password, not at the ends
  * Include **lower-case letters**
  * Include **numeric characters**
  * Include **symbol characters**
  * Do **not** include pet names, kids' names, birthdays or other easily acquired bits

From the Zimbra Web Client:

**ZWC -> Preferences -> General -> Password**

===== Lost Password Recovery =====

==== Add Recovery E-Mail ====

<note tip>**Do this before you forget your Zimbra Password!**  If you don't, you will need to contact your Zimbra admin to have them change your Zimbra password.</note>

**ZWC -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Password Recovery Account Settings -> Add Recovery E-Mail**

Access your Recovery E-Mail account to obtain the **verification code**.

Enter the **verification code** in Zimbra to complete the process.

:!: If you have trouble with copy and paste, try manually entering the verification code.

You can now use the ''Forgot Password'' link on the **[[https://zimbra.virtualarchitects.com/?login|Zimbra login page]]** to **reset your password**.
