====Encrypt Data====

:!: Use 7-Zip to **encrypt data that you may want to share securely** via email, DropBox etc.

:!: The The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (**HIPAA**) has made this **mandatory for transporting any patient data**.

Right Click folder or file to be encrypted.

Select **7-Zip -> Add to Archive**

**Archive Format**:  zip, 7z, etc.

**Compression Method**: To secure large amounts of data quickly choose "Store" this does not compress but only copies data.

**Encryption**: Enter a password.  The longer the password the harder it is to crack

**Encryption Method**: ZipCrypto or AES-256.  

<note tip>ZipCrypto is more compatible with zip archivers but is a weak encryption.  It is vulnerable to a known plain
text attack. 7-Zip and WinZip do support AES-256.</note>
