====== Ahsay Disaster Recovery ====== See also **[[https://www.sonoracomm.com/wiki/doku.php?do=search&id=ahsay|Other Ahsay pages in this wiki]]** https://help.ahsay.com/openArticle.aspx?aid=2502&p=16 ===== Windows Bare Metal (DR) Backup ===== https://support.c4l.co.uk/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/93/0/best-practices-for-backup-and-recovery-of-ms-windows-system-backup :!: This must be in addition to file and other backups. ==== Create the Image Backup ==== http://www.ahsay.com/jsp/en/home/index.jsp?pageContentKey=ahsay_products_windows-system_benefits - Create a new backup set - Choose ''MS Windows System Backup'' - Verify ''Include all critical volumes'' is selected - Choose a relaxed backup schedule for DR backups: * One time (run after significant system changes) * Monthly would be reasonable * Weekly would be the most frequent you would want - Adjust the temporary storage location: * Local, USB or network location * Must be a non-critical volume - Choose on-line, Local Copy or both === Best Variation for Fast, Local Disaster Recovery === When you create the ''MS Windows System Backup'' set, you might: * Choose not to configure a Local Copy * Set the temporary directory to be a local, USB or network volume * The temp directory must be a non-critical volume * It's best to use a fast local volume * No encryption * No compression * Disable In-File Delta * De-select ''Remove temporary files after backup'' Then, after backing up the image backup to the Ahsay server, you are left with the necessary files to perform the restore from the left-over temp files. * Acts like a Local Copy, but less secure (unencrypted) * You can skip the Ahsay part of the restore operation and just boot from the Windows media * Consider enabling Microsoft's BitLocker on the dedicated temporary volume for security ==== Restore the Image Backup ==== http://www.ahsay.com/jsp/en/home/index.jsp?pageContentKey=ahsay_products_windows-system_benefits - Using the Ahsay web interface, restore the image backup to an external hard drive * Or just use the temporary files as discussed above - Connect the external hard drive top the machine to be restored - Boot the machine from the Windows installation media - Choose Repair - Choose Image Restore
